THESIS
First Amendment and Vietnam War protests, both peaceful and not, of the 1960s and early 1970s provided a voice to college student activists across America and changed the way that campuses thought about security. To meet the changing landscape of campus security, the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville hired Lawrence Slamons in 1972 to lead the University through its transformation from a campus security program to a full-fledged campus police department. By instilling controversial changes and implementing innovative actions, Slamons reshaped the University of Arkansas community and established a legacy of professionalism and dignity for generations of campus security officers to come.
